The wood is commonly burned in a nature similar to incense by allowing the smoke to cleanse an area. The difference between Ecuadorian and Peruvian palo santo: Peruvian origin has "spicier" notes of citrus & mint, and is more rectangular, while Ecuadorian origin has "sweeter" notes of cinnamon, vanilla, & coconut. Also, Ecuadorian Palo smells much lighter and softer than Palo santo from Peru. 1Lb Palo santo bag contains approximately 40 smudge sticks.
